Crawter’s Brook People’s Park has retained its Green Flag status, the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, alongside five other park areas in Crawley.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises well managed parks and green areas, setting the standard for the management of outdoor spaces across the UK and internationally. The scheme aims to ensure everybody has access to quality green spaces and recognises good practice as well as the hard work of managers, staff and volunteers.
Having first been awarded to Crawter’s Brook in 2025, retaining Green Flag status positions the People’s Park alongside the town’s five other award winning park areas - Tilgate Park, Goffs Park, Memorial Gardens, Worth Park and Ifield Mill Pond – all of which retained their Green Flag status for 2026.
The award is recognition of the continued efforts to improve and maintain Crawter’s Brook, a once-overlooked and neglected area that is now a vibrant, welcoming green space at the heart of the Manor Royal Business District.
The transformation of Crawter’s Brook was achieved following the creation of the Manor Royal BID that immediately set about securing the necessary funding to create the People’s Park that was opened by the Duke of Gloucester in 2014.
Working with landscape architects Allen Scott, a once inaccessible and unloved area now provides attractive seated areas, public art and landscaped areas, shared cycle and footpaths, information boards and boardwalks. The park offers a tranquil space for relaxation and connection with nature. Its role as a biodiversity corridor has also made it an important environmental asset for the town.
Maintenance and upkeep of Crawter’s Brook is provided by the Manor Royal BID through the BID’s Maintenance Team, supported by Crawley Borough Council, and daily inspections are provided by the Manor Royal BID Business Ranger team, provided by Blue Light Security. Regular conservation-based volunteering sessions provided by Sussex Wildlife Trust help support the efforts of the BID funded Maintenance and Security teams.
