Plans to redevelop the Varian Medical Systems site in Manor Royal have been approved by the borough council.

An application from Hathaway Opportunity Fund LLP, for the site in Gatwick Road, was given the nod during a meeting of the planning committee on Monday July 20.

All buildings on the site will be demolished and replaced with a mixture of industrial and logistics buildings including warehouses and a five-storey, black and glass self-storage centre, with bronze-colour trim.

There will be a total of 36 parking spaces along with larger unloading bays.

The work will see the loss of 17 trees – a mixture of cherry, sycamore, hawthorn, apple, birch, and aspen – all of which have been assessed as low value. Thirty new trees will be planted.

The site was previously occupied by Varian Medial Systems UK Ltd – which moved to The Create Building in the town centre – and is now occupied on a short-term letting arrangement.
