Fifteen teams from across the Manor Royal Business District came together to support two charities at the Manor Royal BID's annual 6-a-Side Football Tournament on Tuesday 17 June.
In a closely contested competition, reigning champions SOS Systems successfully defended their title, defeating Johnsons Hotel, Restaurant & Catering Linen 1-0 in the final.
The tournament brought together 150 players representing businesses from across Manor Royal, including Acron Aviation, AIM, CRE, Creative Technology, dnata, Frontier Pitts, Gatwick Kia, Johnsons Hotel, Restaurant & Catering Linen, People's Partnership, Saunders Personal Training, SOS Systems, TLC, Vent-Axia, Viridien and VW Gatwick.
First held in 2012, the annual tournament is a popular fixture in the Manor Royal events calendar, with teams giving up their evening to help fundraise for charitable causes. This year's event raised more than £800 for Olive Tree Cancer Support, which provides support to people affected by cancer, including patients, families, friends and carers, and The Ben Kinsella Trust, which works to tackle knife crime through education and campaigning.
Manor Royal BID thanked all participating teams for their support, as well as the match officials and Dave Downey of Everyone Active for all helping to put on another successful charity football tournament.
Steve Sawyer, Executive Director of Manor Royal BID, said:
"The tournament continues to be one of the highlights of the Manor Royal calendar, bringing together businesses from across the Business District. It’s a fun evening of friendly competition, raising funds for charities making a real difference in our communities. We are grateful to everyone who took part and helped make this year's event such a success."
Dave Downey, Activity and Wellbeing Manager for Everyone Active's Crawley contract, said:
"It is fantastic to see so many businesses returning year after year to support this event. Workplace wellbeing is increasingly important, and initiatives such as this encourage people to be active while strengthening connections between organisations across Manor Royal. The fact that it also raises money for two deserving charities makes it even more rewarding."
Gary Tomlinson, Captain of the winning SOS Systems team, said:
"We're delighted to have retained the trophy in what was another highly competitive tournament. The event is always a great opportunity to meet and engage with other businesses across Manor Royal, while supporting worthwhile causes. Credit to all the teams involved for making it such an enjoyable day, and we're proud to have finished as champions once again."
